Welcome to the Make Time for Success Podcast!

Welcome to the Make Time for Success Podcast!

The first episode is FINALLY here! I am so excited that you have taken this small step on your self-development journey! This is HUGE!

First off, let me tell you...I was a procrastinator for a very long time, just like so many people. My personal journey with procrastination taught me that being a procrastinator does not define who you are. Give yourself the permission to be open to change and understand that being a procrastinator doesn’t mean you have to stay that way for the rest of your life. We simply have to find a way to unlearn the habit!

This podcast is the combination of my own personal development and my professional experience as a clinical psychologist. It’s a summary of my experience with procrastination, how I got there and how I was able to overcome it. Plus, I will be bringing many different viewpoints from experts from a variety of different fields and occupations to help you understand how you can start achieving more, wherever you’re at in your journey. I’m here to help you get things done without the overwhelm and without the little voice in your head saying that you can’t do this. Because guess what? I KNOW you can!

The structure I have for this podcast follows the A.C.E. Model and I can’t wait to tell you more about it, so be sure to give this quick episode a listen. Thank you so much for joining me on this journey, I can’t wait to see you along the way.

[4:26] My personal journey with procrastination and how I’ve been able to overcome it.

[7:33] The podcast is broken up into three components called A.C.E.

[8:00] When we are in true alignment with ourselves, our mind, body, energy, and spirit can come together towards making our goals and dreams a reality.

[9:17] Clarity is needed to guide you to your goal. When clarity is missing, we often feel overwhelmed and overworked which leads to procrastination.

[10:38] Overcoming our fears and knowing we are “good enough,” knowing our dreams can be accomplished is a powerful notion and helps us feel empowered

Hi, I'm Dr. Christine Li, and I'm a psychologist and a procrastination coach. I've helped 1000s of people move past procrastination and overwhelm, so they can begin working to their potential. In this podcast, you're going to learn about powerful strategies for getting your mind, body, and energy to work together. So that you can focus on what's really important, and accomplish the goals you want to achieve. When you start living within your full power, you're going to see how being productive can be easy, and how you can create success on demand. Welcome to the make time for success podcast. Hi, my friend, I have been thinking about this very moment for many years. And I just wanted to say that I'm super excited that I finally got here and that you're here with me. So hello, again, this is the episode where I tell you why I created this show who I am, and what you can expect from listening in. So first, why I created this show, I believe that it's important to reduce our stress to alleviate stress whenever and wherever we can. This belief has developed after many years of being a psychologist and a procrastination coach, but also after many years of personal development on myself, because I had many things to work through in my life, which I'll go into a little bit later. But through those many years of doing work on myself and work professionally, I have discovered that there are systems and philosophies and strategies for doing things well, getting things done without stressing ourselves out. And it's been my pleasure to be able to teach people, anyone who will listen, how to do this, how to get things done smoothly, reliably, consistently. And with joy, it's been such a pleasure to do this work. So this podcast is for you if you're interested in pursuing something new, and doing interesting things without freaking yourself out. And without stressing yourself out to the max, I think you're going to find that there's a lot of information and a lot of inspiration in these conversations that I'm going to be hosting and these lessons that I'm going to be teaching, that's my wish. My purpose here is also to show you that you are not alone this work thing, this productivity thing is not as complicated as you might think. And I think the thing that I want to really emphasize is that one of the most important things we can do as adults, one of the most important abilities we can develop is the ability to not get in our own way. So often, when I'm working with clients, when I'm working with anyone who feels like they need my help. Really what I'm doing is not solving an external problem. I'm basically helping people to overcome the internal barriers, the emotional barriers, the stories that people are telling themselves so that they are free to move, so that they're free to grow. And, again, that's one of my purposes, for the show to be able to show you that you have what it takes as simple as that. Okay, now for this section of who I am, I have been a procrastinator, since way back in early high school, I at that time, had no idea how to be organized, how to manage my time, how to reduce my stress, and therefore, by ended up with stress that really felt like it was going to go through the roof all the time. I lost sleep, I lost opportunities, I lost my sense of self oftentimes, because I was just going nuts, losing time losing sleep, and losing my sanity. I always thought that that was just who I was. I was born this way this was fixed. This was all non negotiable. And it was also probably a personality flaw. But thankfully, fate intervened. I was in my first job after graduate school at a major university in their counseling service. And I was a psychologist and I was asked or many of us were asked to produce a procrastination workshop. And I remember my hand shot up to volunteer for the task and that was fate. I think because Little did I know that that one act of volunteering, which was innocent enough would change my life. Because I ended up volunteering for the very thing that I needed help with the most. You heard that right, I volunteered to teach something that I was terrible at because I was terrible at being productive and not procrastinating. But the good news is that putting together the workshop and reading about procrastination made me realize that procrastination was a problem that I could fix. It was amazing. I had so much fun building the workshop, running the workshop and seeing with my own eyes, that I could help people overcome procrastination With a few simple steps with a little bit of encouragement that I could change people's lives. So after 20 years of doing this kind of work, of helping people to get on with their work, and to get free of the burdens that they've had been carrying, I felt like I might be ready to write a book. And so I did that early in 2020. Yes, in the middle of the pandemic, I wrote the book called Five Minute self discipline exercises, stay motivated, cultivate good habits, and achieve your goals. And you heard it again, I did something that was hilarious. I volunteered to write a book about something that I felt I was relatively terrible at. I'm actually not that self disciplined a person. But what I have done is I've learned the habits and the beliefs. And I've taken the actions that have made me appear like I'm self disciplined, it actually works. There are things you can do, to change your life to change your style of doing things. And guess what, at the end of that book, I wrote, I had them published this. I had people look out for the make time for success podcast, it was my way of making a commitment to myself, to show up to show a pig, and to not chicken out and to not stay quiet, with my big ideas. And so here we are today. This is the beginning of something wonderful, I can feel it, I can feel it in my heart right now, as I'm recording this episode. So thank you for being a part of this podcast project. Now for the section about what you can expect, there are three main topics that I plan to focus on, in all the episodes in how I plan, who I'm going to invite onto the show the episodes I'm going to write, they're going to cover these three main topics. And they happen to form the word Ace, AC E. So the first topic is alignment. I feel like it's really much easier to get things done when we're in alignment. And I think you already know what I mean by that. And what I mean is that our mind and our body and our energy, our spirit, that they're all working together so that you are focused, and you're heading towards your goal. There's no funny business, there's no doubt, there's no worry, you're just getting it. It's kind of like I want to get that banana, you just go and get the banana it's uncomplicated isn't. So I want to teach you how to get into alignment. And I think there are many, many ways but my top three are setting your vision, knowing what your goals are in that vision. That's number one. Two is knowing that your goals should involve expansion and fun, because if they're not, they're probably the wrong goals for you. The third step is wellness. Always making sure that you're doing things to keep your mind your body and your energy, in good shape, if not in top shape. And that can be through training through therapy through reading. The options are endless. So the second main topic that I will tend to focus on in this podcast is clarity. Because clarity helps everything doesn't it. When we're not clear in our actions, we can end up overworking burned out being confused, playing too small or procrastinating. So let's not struggle so much. Let's find what we need to do. And let's find a path towards getting there. So how do we get this kind of clarity? my top three ways are prioritizing my ability to focus, making sure I have the right notes, my space is set up that my schedule is set up so that I can concentrate things like that. The second way is to know what my purpose is because when we know where we're headed, we can do Get clear and say, this will work for me. And this is just not going to work for my plan. And then finally a take action. Because I have found that when we prioritize taking action, overthinking too much and stressing out, I get clearer. And I have learned things, I see what happens. And then I go from there. So action is one of my biggest clarity tips. Okay, the third main topic area for this podcast is empowerment. And that's a heavy word. It's a powerful word, of course. And I think it's hard to try to get important work and big dreams accomplished. If we're feeling not good enough, if we're feeling like we don't have what it takes. If we're doubting ourselves. If we're worrying when we're starting out. If we're feeling like we're too weak or wobbly, or whatever the words are, that we're too wishy washy for things, we're not feeling empowered. And that sets us up for failure that sets us up for feeling like our dreams are just never going to happen. And I don't want you to feel that way. Because I do believe in my heart of hearts, deep deep down inside, that you are capable of achieving any of the dreams that you have for yourself, that they are inside of you for a reason. The fact that you even have them is evidence that they already exist. I do believe that when we think of things, that's step one, for making things a reality. So let's learn how to empower ourselves. How do we do that? I've picked three ways to focus on under this category of impairment, and they are working to overcome your fear, doing things again, like therapy, coaching, taking new risks, facing your fears. The second part of getting more empowered is developing your sense of presence. Maybe it's public speaking, maybe it's thinking about how you're showing up when you are in a new situation, or when you're feeling like you're leveling up in your life, how can we improve your sense of presence. And the last piece in the subject of empowerment is believing in yourself. This is the core to doing things. Well. This is the core to doing well. In general, when you believe in yourself, you remove all the need to waste your time in doubt, and thinking things aren't going to work out because who wants to start out and focus on the negative. I know I don't. I want to make things happen. And I want to help you make things happen in your life too. It's way more fun. Trust me, I've done both styles. I've done massive procrastination. And I've done massive productivity. And I'll take massive productivity every day of the week. So we're gonna go on this podcast and personal development journey together, we're going to explore what is working for you and what's not. And I'm going to introduce you to so many different options for doing things well, so that you have more time for success. I'm looking forward to building this together with you too.
